Weight loss, something nobody wants to think about or do. In all reality, it is something that people often think about doing after years of unhealthy habits have taken hold and they have usually 50+ lbs. to lose. I'm in that exact, same boat. Let's face it, it's super easy to go through the drive through and grab a burger or order that pizza on Saturday night instead of cooking something. Life gets busy and we all just want to take the easy way out when it comes to our meals. People don't think about all the crap and processed foods, grease, oil, etc. that go into these types of things until they're looking to take the weight back off.
I'm just like the next person out there and want to take the easy route once and a while. I did it for years and didn't bother to think of the outcome. I did because I was lazy. I did it because it was convenient. I did it because I thought it tasted good. And workouts? Forget about it. I didn't have time for that. This was my lifestyle.
Here I am now and it's time that I work on CHANGING my lifestyle back to homemade meals. Easy fix? Not even slightly. A lifestyle change comes with challenges. It requires a person to actually sit down one or two days a week and plan meals, make a grocery list, time to do all these things. Life gets busy and it's hard to do everything plus this. It's all about making time and prioritizing what is important.
I struggled for the longest time planning meals on a weekly basis. It was easier to run out to McDonald's or Subway and grab something while I was out and about. Cooking for one was terrible, it still is but with a little bit of an idea of what I want to make, what I can take for left overs for lunch the next day helps. Not only that it saves me a ton of money on groceries. I used to throw away so much food because it either went bad before I got around to making it or it would sit in my fridge because I simply wouldn't eat the left overs. Now I take Sunday mornings and I sit down with my planner and write down what I will be making for dinner and usually lunches the following day will be exactly what I had for dinner. I plan out my breakfasts and snacks as well right away. Having this written down helps me see what I will be having and there is no guess work when I go to pack my lunch in the morning, which for a person who isn't at all a morning person is a big time saver! My planner even has a place at the bottom to track water along with what work out I need to do for my whatever my Beachbody program of the month is. This saves me time by not having to look at my giant calendar that comes with the program or time looking it up online if I'm using the Beachbody On Demand for my workouts.
"Diets" don't usually work. Why not? There are a few major reasons. The biggest being they do not take into account a person's lifestyle or needs. They're temporary as well. Most diets aren't created to stay on them for a long term basis. They typically drastically reduce your calorie intake, which sometimes means you are missing out on key nutrients. Also reducing your calorie intake in turn means your body is not generating the same amount of energy you once had. Diet's can also drain your bank account requiring special foods or outrageously expensive things.
Losing weight and keeping it off really, honestly is about lifestyle changes. There is no magic pill or miracle cure. It took day, weeks, months, and usually years to put it on, it'll take just as much time (usually more) to take it back off. Eating healthier, smarter, and cleaner along with 30 minutes/day of moderate level exercise at least 5 times a week will get a person there the healthy way.

Fitness Journey
There were many things that led me to deciding to dedicate 2017 to being healthier. One major thing was, well is the fact, I'm not in the best shape and could use to drop easily 45-50 lbs. It's weight I put on when I was in college and then more when I got married. I dropped a decent amount throughout my divorce but managed to gain even that back when I moved into my current house. I want to get healthier for me. I want to fit in smaller clothes.
I took a big step last week and signed up to be a BeachBody coach. I want to not only make a difference in my life but in the lives of others. Everyone has a story and a different journey. I'm sure there is somebody out there with a similar journey to mine, obviously not exactly but definitely similar. I want to be able to help people. It is truly a passion of mine.
Health should be important to everyone really. The healthier you are, the easier life can be. I have experienced life both at a healthy weight and one that isn't so healthy and let me tell you, healthier is the way to go. Growing up I was an athlete. I played hockey year ground from the age of 11 or 12. I was constantly active and moving. Sitting all day just wasn't an option for me. I was sick way less. Then came college. I was still skating and playing hockey but not nearly like I had been. The focus became school and working. Cue lots of sitting time. I gained a lot of weight. Those "Freshman 15" were more like the "Freshman 25-30". Putting them on was easy. Taking them back off would have been easy had I decided I needed to make the time to go to the gym on campus and work out a little bit. After college, I moved back home, worked ridiculous hours where I sat all day everyday. Instead of focusing on me and getting healthy then I made the easy decision to just buy bigger clothes. It wasn't until after I was married and was to the point where my size 14 pants no longer fit comfortably and I needed a size 16 pants that I realized I needed to make some kind of change. My husband at the time always said "I'll do anything I can to support you and help you lose weight" however these were just words. There were no actions to go with that. If I craved something like DQ or pizza, he'd be the first one to be out the door to get it for me. He was what I call today an "enabler". I got what I wanted - not always a good thing!
It wasn't until my divorce started that I finally made some progress in the weight loss department. This wasn't a healthy way to lose the weight however. I literally was eating next to nothing and drinking wine every night, and a lot of wine at that. I was coaching hockey at the time as well. So take very little food intake, lots of wine, and skating 5 nights a week on average. Obviously any weight I lost wasn't going to stay off. I lost about 45 lbs through the entire process which brought me to an 5 year weight loss low at about 175 lbs. However, over the next year and a year - 2 years I gained about 30 of those pounds back as I figured I probably would.
This leads me to where I am at now. I decided it was time to get dedicated and take this year to focus on my health. I started as a BeachBody coach. I figured if I have other people looking to me to see how successful I can be, they can also be successful. I have seen many other successful on this journey as well. I'm not one to enjoy going to the gym so being able to work out in the privacy of my own home is great! I have my coach to hold me accountable and mentor me as I start and progress on my journey.
Please follow along with me on this journey. If you have any questions regarding BeachBody, what I'm doing, how to purchase shakeology and any of the programs, do not hesitate to ask. I'm more than willing to help in any way I can. So far on my journey I am down about 10 lbs since the beginning of th year and have a long road ahead of me, but slow and steady wins the race!

Starting Fresh
Its a new year, a new start to a new chapter of my life. I figured after the last few years it was time to start new, start fresh and here I am! My name is Kaitlin and I'm 29 (almost 30 yikes!) Over the last 2.5 years a lot has been going on my life. I went through a nasty divorce, met a guy who I thought was great and it turned out to be an awful and to say the least, rocky relationship. Extremely unhealthy on so many levels.
Here I am now, starting 2017 off single (which I might add, I'm completely okay with!). I was laying in bed on New Years Eve thinking to myself what I wanted for myself in 2017. Now, I'm not the type of person who ever has really set a resolution before. In fact, I never have. I didn't want to start this year either. I decided that 2017 I was going to focus on me, my health, and my happiness. I figured that was better than some stupid resolution I knew I wouldn't keep after a few weeks anyways. I wanted to also document my journey, the ups, the downs, and the in-betweens because I know I'm not the only woman out there who is in the same position that I am in.
I plan on sharing my accomplishments with my health, the pit falls, the bumps, good recipes I discover along the way and anything in between. I have some pretty exciting events throughout the year. There will be lots to share I'm sure so I invite you along for this ride I'm embarking on and let's see where it will take us!
